You can use the Lightning to juice up another EV or plug-in hybrid, as well as have it act as a backup generator for your home if the power goes out. The all-electric powertrain lends itself to some cool parlor tricks, too, like providing on-the-go electricity from many on-board power outlets. This truck offers a spacious cabin, a long list of technology and more than 300 miles of driving range in select trims, though range can suffer when pulling big trailers or in cold weather. It's a blast to drive, with gobs of torque and deft handling through turns. The 2023 F-150 Lightning is both a good full-size pickup truck and a good electric vehicle. The Rivian also has a longer driving range than the Lightning. Still, the Rivian R1T’s Gear Tunnel and front trunk provide even more cargo space. The Lightning’s front trunk can gobble up a massive amount of cargo. The electric F-150 has less towing and hauling capability than the traditional F-150, but it makes up for that with even more cargo capacity. The Lightning, as the name suggests, is also very quick from a stop with instant power and torque. When I tested the Lightning for a week, I found that it has a more planted feel when cornering because of the weight of its electric battery. That’s a good thing, but that’s not to say there aren’t any differences between the two.
